Rail Gradients

A common question when asked about phase 1 of the project is how the two existing stations in Windsor will be linked up. They are so close and at such different levels, it seems that you would need a funicular railway to connect them. The solution is to remember that train lines get people to places, not stations. That is we need to join not the stations but the lines. As these both enter Windsor at similar levels, they can be connected relatively easily with a new single station just below ground level next to the existing Central station.

Both stations are retained and would be restored for new uses.

The schematic below illustrates the gradients for the bored option, which is the worst case in terms of gradients as this needs to be deeper in the ground. Another option is cut-n-cover, which would result in less steep gradients.
