Get Reading has today reported:

The first privately promoted and funded railway project for more than 100 years, was given the go ahead to raise investment by Network Rail.

Windsor Link Railway (WLR), the first privately promoted and funded railway project for more than 100 years, was given the go ahead to raise investment by Network Rail.

Dr Phillip Lee, MP for Bracknell Forest, said: “I have long argued both locally and nationally that the Crossrail plans need to include Bracknell. That is why I am encouraged by the Windsor Link Railway which will facilitate this.

“I also welcome the fact this project will be financed and led by the private sector, thus relieving the burden on taxpayers and creating an incentive to drive down fares.”
