Thank you to everybody who’s responded to our residents’ survey so far. A particular thank you to those who made the effort to post their responses by hand. The results show overwhelming support, with 95.2% of residents responding believing that the scheme is important to Windsor. […]

The Economist has published an article on the Northern Hub, in Manchester. This is how it starts. FOR £33 billion and a 20-year wait, Britain is to get a high-speed rail line connecting London to the north of England. For £32 billion-odd less than that sum, it gets the Northern Hub. Far less controversial or glamorous — the funding process was a bit like a church-roof appeal at first, says Chris Fletcher of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce — the project is a terrific [...]

Transforming Maidenhead

2017-06-03T11:13:15+00:00March 1st, 2013|Tags: , |

The Windsor Link Railway strongly supports the rejuvenation of Maidenhead. The video above, released for the well-attended event held at Adobe last week, shows why it is so exciting for local businesses and residents. Maidenhead and the area around it is an economic powerhouse. Much of its success has been built on great connectivity to London. However, much of this is at or near to capacity, including both the fast rail lines to London and the M4, which threatens future growth. Crossrail will be [...]

The Windsor Facelift

2013-02-08T17:27:17+00:00February 8th, 2013|Tags: , |

In preparation for the Queen's jubilee people of Windsor and Eton, led by the Windsor and Eton Society, worked hard to give their town a 'facelift' improving the look of the town and restoring buildings to their former glory. Yesterday we saw some of the results of that work as the Earl of Wessex gave awards to the people behind some of the best restorations - a difficult task given that over 160 buildings took part. The Windsor and Eton society have very kindly [...]

Michael Gove adds his support

2017-06-03T11:17:29+00:00January 17th, 2013|Tags: |

Another local MP, The Right Hon. Michael Gove has joined his colleagues in supporting the Windsor Link Railway, saying... "Better rail services are important for the people of Surrey Heath. This is why I am encouraged to see proposals such as the Windsor Link Railway, which would make it easier to connect Farnborough, Camberley and Bagshot direct to Heathrow as well as to the Thames Valley." Other local MPs supporting WLR's proposals for better rail links for their towns include John Redwood and Phillip [...]

Estimating Demand

2017-06-03T11:53:15+00:00December 8th, 2012|Tags: |

Over the last few months the Windsor Link Railway has been working with Network Rail to estimate demand for phase 1 of the Windsor Link Railway, connecting Slough to Staines via Windsor. As with much forecasting, this is a far from easy task. Network Rail's standard approach is to look first at the population and employment in the catchment areas of the new services. This splits into two types: long-distance and local. One can ignore the former for now because it is too complex [...]
