WLR welcomes the new Prime Minister, Theresa May, who is also the local MP for Maidenhead. This is what she said about the Windsor Link Railway: Good train services from Maidenhead and Twyford to London are crucial, both for commuters who live in the local area and for local businesses. That’s why I welcome proposals from the Windsor Link Railway company, which could potentially provide much quicker journey times to south London and Waterloo. These have the additional advantage of being privately-led, reducing the [...]

Most of the benefits of WLR are to Windsor itself. The town will have an effective doubling of the frequency of trains to Waterloo and Paddington, knocking about 20 minutes off average journey times to London. However, much of this is at or near to capacity, including both the fast rail lines to London and the M4, which threatens future growth. Crossrail will be [...]

At the full council meeting last week the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead approved its new Local Transport Plan. This is a very thick document but the relevant section, on page 73, lists three options for a new rail link connecting Heathrow to the borough. One of these is Slough's WRAtH scheme; the second is the Airtrack scheme, now promoted by Wandsworth and other London boroughs as Airtrack Lite; and the third is the Windsor Link Railway (phase 2), for a more general [...]
