On Wednesday, the steering group of the Central Windsor Neighbourhood Plan decided to support a Windsor Link Railway. They resolved: To support a Windsor link railway in principle To request that the emerging Borough Local Plan marks the associated land as reserved whilst potential development is considered, so as not to impede the development of a railway. The Transport Topic Group will consider a Windsor link railway as part of its discussions.
The Windsor Link Railway is on the agenda tonight for the steering group of the Central Windsor Neighbourhood Plan. There's a presentation on the WLR by Richard Wickerson starting at 6pm in the Windsor Guildhall, Ascot Room. The meeting proper starts at 6.30.
The Windsor Link Railway has been added to the Campaign for Better Transport website, listing lines they think should be opened or re-opened. Campaign for Better Transport's Stephen Joseph, was quoted in The Telegraph saying: There are a number of sizeable places that aren't on the rail network where reopening lines and stations would make good economic sense, and there are also 'missing links' between key towns... as a first step we'd like to see possible routes safeguarded in the planning system so they [...]
The Windsor Link Railway is the first privately-led and funded new railway for over 100 years. It aims to give local residents faster and more frequent trains to London, Heathrow and throughout the region from Windsor, Slough, Maidenhead and Ascot. Other potential benefits include improving the environment, providing more parking, reducing traffic congestion and lower train fares. The Windsor Link Railway welcomes two excellent appointments to the Department for Transport. Susan Kramer, appointed as Transport Minister, brings a wealth of private sector transport experience to her role. She rose to a Vice-President in Citibank and set-up her own company advising on infrastructure project. She's also taken a keen interest in London transport matters.
